Until July of 2013, Queens and government and related entity employees were given no choice but to utilize QSuper for their employer contributions superannuation.

A Default Superannuation Fund

It was a default superannuation fund. Recent changes, however, mean that if you are Queen's and government employee, you can now transfer benefits from your QSuper superannuation account to another complying Super account. Which would include your self-managed super fund if you have one?

This is provided you leave 2,000 dollars in your QSuper fund as a minimum balance. There are some good reasons why you might consider maintaining your QSuper membership, and the subsequent ongoing contributions. But certainly compulsion and lack of choice are not amongst those reasons.
